Description
Step back in time this Christmas and decorate your tree with DIY cinnamon Christmas ornaments. Learn how to make them below!
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup Water
- 1/3 cup Cinnamon (more if you want them darker)
- 1 cup Baking Soda
- 1 cup Corn Starch
- Cookie Cutters
- Optional: Branch from tree or flowers
- Festive Twine
Instructions
- Pour all the dry ingredients into a large bowl and mix together so that there is no more white showing.
- Add water and mix throughly. It will be a more liquid consistency… that is ok!
- This next step is to thicken the mixture by cooking it a little. You are going to want to pour the mixture into a saucepan or pot large enough that it is easy to stir.
- Have on medium heat and keep stirring until the mixture thickens to a dough like texture.
- Remove the mixture and place into a bowl.
- Allow the mixture to cool before handling.
- While it is cooling make sure to cover the mixture with a damp paper towel and then cover the bowl with a cloth napkin to lock in the moisture. This dough dries out quickly so this step is very important!
- Once cooled you can begin rolling out the dough. Only take a little bit out at a time because this dough dries out very quickly. I usually take out enough for 3-4 ornaments.
- Use cookie cutters or make your own design. Make sure to use a straw to make a hole large enough for the string to hang on the tree.
- Fun Tip: Use branches from your Christmas tree or flowers as stamps on the ornaments
- Preheat oven to 350F.
- Bake ornaments for max 10min. Put in a small test batch first and keep an eye on them so that they are not bubbling or burning. Adjust bake time for your oven if needed.
