Adding a touch of Spring to our home this month has brightened our mood as we celebrate the end of this extremely long winter. In this post I share 4 simple ways to welcome Spring into your home!
I won’t lie I cried at the end of April because I had enough of Winter. As those I followed on Instagram posted photos of sunshine and grass, it continued to snow and we rarely saw the sun. BUT Spring has finally made her debut in May and to celebrate I decided to welcome the change of seasons into our home.
Spring Homemaking
As homemakers, the seasons are a wonderful time to exercise our homemaking skills. From cooking to decorating the possibilities are endless. This is only a very short list, but there are so many other ways to welcome a new season. So let’s dive in! Here are my favourite ways to add a touch of spring in our home:
4 ways to welcome spring into your home
#1 Change Meals
Move away from soups and cozy meals to refreshing meals. Make salad the meal, add citrus flavours and get outside to BBQ.
#2 Change Decor to brighter colours
Winter welcomes cozy and dark colours, where Spring welcomes light and bright! Every season I change over many of our main everyday items. I change our dish towels, dinner table decor, decorative pillows, and blankets. In our living room, I swap out the knitted blankets and plaid pillows, for cotton blankets and sky blue pillows. In our kitchen, I remove the snowflake dish towels and added light blue ones. Lastly, for the dinner table, I remove the table runner and add fresh flowers. I do like to keep the candles on our dinning table because I love how intimate it makes dinner feel.
#3 Open the windows And Try New Diffuser Blends
During the winter our windows are mainly closed… where I live they are even frozen shut! This makes the house very stuffy. One simple way to make it feel instantly like Spring is to open all the windows in the house and air it out! Another way to freshen the house is to diffuse your favourite citrus essential oils. I have been diffusing lemon a lot. This helps make the house feel renewed after Winters stale air. Another favourite blend is lemon + lavender + peppermint for spring seasonal sniffles.
#4 Fill Your Home With Fresh Flowers
Fresh flowers brighten up any space and since our home is an open concept it makes a huge difference to have flowers on our dinner table. My current favourite flowers are white tulips. They are an extremely affordable and they really shout “WELCOME SPRING”.
